Converting FAA Certificates to TCCA Licenses

Complete Your Flight Training in Sunny Florida

Ready to begin your flight training in the USA? Take advantage of easy transfer of FAA licensure to TCCA licensure, and enjoy year-round warm weather flying with Cirrus Aviation in Sarasota, Florida.

Canada and the U.S. have an agreement that allows pilots to convert their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificate to a Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) license, or vice versa. This is called an Implementation Procedures for Licensing (IPL) agreement. It allows pilots to convert their licenses or certificates without meeting all of the exact requirements of the other country’s regulations.

The IPL allows for the conversion of:
– Private Pilot
– Commercial Pilot
– Airline Transport Pilot
– Aircraft type, airplane class, and instrument ratings

What you need to do:

1. Obtain a Canadian Aviation Medical. You must have the medical certificate in hand before you can do the conversion exams. After seeing a doctor, it takes 4-5 weeks to get the medical certificate.
2. Fill out the license validation form. This process can take up to 90 days, but is usually done in less.
3. Sign up for and complete the FAA conversion course.
4. Once you have a medical certificate in hand and you are ready for the exam, schedule the exam.
5. Complete application at a Transport Canada office. It can take up to 90 days to receive the aviation booklet.
